Patrick's Day Around Chicagoland - Chicagoland Real Estate Forum

Saturday is St. Patrick?s Day, and there?s aplenty going on around Chicago.

At 10 a.m., the Chicago River will be dyed Irish green, an annual event that only happens in the Windy City. The best place to view this is between Columbus and Wabash or the intersection of Michigan Ave., Wacker Dr. and the river.

The Saint Patrick?s Day Parade always falls on a Saturday whether St. Patrick?s Day does or not, and this year it does.

The parade steps off at noon at Balbo and Columbus and will proceed north on Columbus to E. Monroe. There will be viewing stand in front of Buckingham Fountain.

*St. Patrick?s Day Paddle: Want to kayak down a green river? Geneva Kayak, Paddle & Trail and CASKA (Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Assocation) will be paddling down the Chicago River at 10 a.m. on St. Patrick?s Day, March 17. The trip is for experienced paddlers who have their own immersion gear. There is no charge for this event, but kayak rentals are $30. There is also a shuttle leaving Aurora and Rockford at 7:30 a.m. for $15. Register whether you need to rent a kayak or not at 630-882-9211.

*Paint the Town Green: The city of Palatine is hosting this event on Saturday, March 17, beginning with an Irish Market at 180 N. Smith St. from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A St. Patrick?s Day Parade steps off at 11 a.m. at Community Park, at Wood and Plum Grove roads. The day then continues with tons of activities and Irish entertainment throughout downtown Palatine. There will be a collection area of food, clothing and donations to benefit Journeys from PADS to HOPE, which help the homeless and near homeless in the North and Northwest suburbs.

*St. Patrick?s Day Celebration: Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave., Chicago, is hosting a free party after the city?s St. Patrick?s Day parade on the Family Pavilion State on Saturday, March 17 from 2 to 6 p.m. The event will feature the live performances of the Trinity Irish Dancers and the band Anish.
